I Tipu Aku Au I Tenei Tau... 2020

 Ezra

Ko Ezra toku ingoa. Ko Te Rarawa toku iwi.

This year my te reo Maori has improved and I have learnt how to ask for stuff, I have learnt how to do my mihi and I also learnt how to sing a number of songs in Maori. My least favourite part of the year was during lock down because it was boring and there was nothing to do at home stuck in my bubble. The only things I did was play my PS4 and go for walks.

Having a new kaiako while whaea Jasmine was on a course in term 3 was also hard. I had to get use to a new kaiako and I struggled. At the start of the year

my aim was to improve my spelling, writing, reading and maths. I feel I have grown in my reading due to being a part of a book club. In maths it was tricky as we had to go to Tangaroa and I had to get used to a new teacher. But with the return of whaea Jasmine this term I have learnt about Geometry, what is a polygon and what is not. How to identify right angles, and what are parallel and perpendicular lines. My writing is still improving and is an area to focus on next year. The thing I am most proud of this year is learning how to do mau rakau. I had never done this before. I really enjoyed the physical parts of it and learning about my culture. Next year I am moving to Tangaroa, I don’t really want to go. I will have to learn to make new friends and get used to new teachers. I am hoping I will fit in. So I really don’t feel prepared for the next year.My goals for 2021 is to fit in with my new class and continue to work on my maths, spelling and writing. The one piece of advice I would give future Year 7s for next year would be don’t misbehave in class, get on with your work and listen to your teachers. The three words that describe me this year are pleasantly noisy, funny and waha nui. I would like these words to change next year to respectful, quiet and smarter.

Book club is where my whole class has to choose a book. We read a book and then after we do  discussion ticket. Also my group decides on our favorite part, favorite paragraph and  figure out what kind of figurative language is in our book and unknown vocabulary. We also have a booklet that me and my group have to fill out. My group has a different job to do each day.

Polygon

Today I learnt what is a Polygon and what is not a polygon. A Polygon is 2D flat shape, it is made out of straight lines, it is a closed figure where all lines connect. A polygon has no intersecting lines. I also learnt the names for polygons based on the number of sides they have.

Sphero ramp

Today with Elizabeth we had to make ramps for the sphero's. I worked with Miriam.

The challenge was to balance the ramp and get the sphero to go straight.

Our ramp had a stand underneath it, made with three bits of little cardboard.

The challenging thing about building the ramp was that it wasn't standing up properly.
